Victor Ortiz has worked in the field of organization development consulting and training since 1978.  He has successfully designed and implemented organizational and work system change efforts that deliver results.  Vic is an expert in techniques that optimize quality and productivity and enhance people's ability to bring their best self to work.

 

With a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology, Vic has worked with clients in both the private and public sectors.  From 1978 through 1981, Vic was a lead consultant for the California Department of Alcohol and Substance Abuse, and provided technical assistance to community agencies. In 1982, he did organization development in high-tech, rapid growth industries with Serafini Associates.  From 1983 to 1988, Vic was a Managing Partner at Interaction Associates, a San Francisco-based firm specializing in meeting facilitation, team leadership skills training, conflict resolution, and management of collaborative problem-solving processes.  From 1988 to 1996, as Ortiz Consulting Services, he developed his private practice and partnered with a variety of consulting and training firms in client-specific project teams. From 1996 through 1999 Vic was a Senior Consultant with Gelinas-James, Inc., a firm that focuses on collaborative approaches to organization redesign and change management.  With the new millennium, Ortiz Consulting Services has partnered with the Lean Construction Institute, with ChangeWorks, LLC, and Strategic Project Solutions on organization change efforts tied to implementing project-based production systems.

 

Vic has a broad range of consulting experience and knows how to get results.  He has led strategic planning efforts in organizations as diverse as an institutional stock brokerage firm and a Catholic Diocese.  He has developed training packages to support Total Quality Management and Lean Transformation efforts in manufacturing, construction, high-tech, and service organizations.  He has supported organizational redesign efforts that eliminated waste and improved productivity in government agencies, the automotive and health care industries.  Typical engagements also involve leadership development and coaching. Vic has led complex, multi-party events, including recent work in the fields of construction industry partnering, and the formation of strategic alliances with suppliers. A highly rated trainer, Vic has conducted hundreds of training sessions on the topics of organization change leadership, consulting skills, project management, SpeedReading People, Total Quality Management, lean construction, lean product design, meeting facilitation, and collaborative problem solving.

 

Recent engagements have included operational analysis in a worldwide transportation refrigeration business, organization alignment for ERP implementations in two major pharmaceutical companies, strategic planning and performance improvement within two major universities and an engineering staffing company, and lean construction implementation in US and the UK, including the largest civil construction project in Europe, Heathrow Airport Terminal 5.


Other notable consulting projects have included:

 

Ø      Design and implementation of "Concept to Customer", Ford Motor Company's product development transformation that cut product development cycle time in half and improved product quality.

Ø      Launch  and training of several cross-functional "Design for Competitiveness" teams that resulted in dramatically improved product designs in very short times at Northrop.

Ø      Design and implementation of an Employee Involvement effort that resulted in a $75 million turn-around and avoided a plant closure in an aluminum company.

Ø      Team building with former President Carter to align the diverse staff of the Carter Center at Emery University.

Ø      "Care Redesign" pilot projects that cut costs and improved patient satisfaction ratings at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and for a national chain of primary care hospitals.

Ø      Construction Partnering Workshops that resulted in faster issue resolution and improved productivity on the $500M+ Los Vaqueros Dam and Eastern Transportation Corridor projects,

Ø      Strategic planning and reorganization for the Diocese of Oakland, Vanderbilt University Human Resource Services, Duke University Human Resources that improved productivity and quality of work life.

Ø      Development and leadership of numerous in-house training programs in team leadership, meeting skills, problem solving and involvement process management,

Ø      Design and implementation of various Collaborative Change efforts in manufacturing, apparel, construction and service industries as well as academic and public sector organizations, including planning with and coaching senior executives.

Ø      Creation and implementation of the comprehensive ChangeWorks leadership development program, “Leading Change”, used on ERP system implementation at major chemical and pharmaceutical companies.

Ø      Director of Transformation and Resource Development at N.L. Barnes Construction, Inc. in support of their “Lean Transformation” process.

Ø      Implementation of Lean Construction practices and collaborative approaches to organizational change leadership at Laing O’Rourke PLC in London and with the British Airport Authority on the construction of Terminal 5 at Heathrow.
